Wayne Gersoff, M.D.
Orthopedic Surgeon

"When I look at the path I have chosen, the most important thought I have is that I love the unique and challenging opportunities to help people of all ages return to active and productive lifestyles."

Dr. Wayne Gersoff recognized his desire to enter a career in medicine, and, in particular, surgery, at an early stage in his education. Orthopedic surgery provided the unique blend of science, biomechanics, and technical skills as a mechanism to help people. This, coupled with his life-long participation in and love of sports, drew him to a career in orthopedic sports medicine.

While attending Yale University, Dr. Gersoff was a three-year starter on the varsity soccer team. He received a bachelor's degree upon graduation in 1977. His medical degree was received from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York in 1981. Dr. Gersoff then returned to Yale University for his residency in orthopedic surgery. To pursue further his interest in sports medicine, he completed a year of fellowship for specialized training in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Wisconsin.

Upon completion of his fellowship in 1987, Dr. Gersoff was recruited to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to develop and direct a program in sports medicine, as well as be team physician for the University of Colorado athletic teams. At that time he also developed a program that provided sports medicine coverage for the Denver Public Schools' athletic teams. Dr. Gersoff entered private practice in 1994. During his career, he has continued to be actively involved in sports medicine. In addition to the University of Colorado athletic teams, Dr. Gersoff has served as team physician for the Colorado Rockies baseball team, the Denver Grizzlies hockey team, the U.S. Ski Jumping team, and the Denver Public Schools. He presently serves as team physician for the Colorado Rapids professional soccer team and is a member of the physician pool for the U.S. Soccer teams and a medical advisor to the Colorado High School Sports Activities Association.

Dr. Gersoff is actively involved in the care of both lower and upper extremity injuries in athletes. He has been actively involved in complex knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder reconstruction, and complex knee surgery involving articular cartilage restoration and meniscal cartilage transplantation. He has lectured and taught extensively on these topics around the world since 1998. He is considered one of the international leaders of combined procedures in cartilage defects and meniscal articular cartilage deficiencies. In addition to being board certified in orthopedic surgery, he is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

Dr. Gersoff and his wife have two daughters, two dogs, and a horse. He loves being with his family and is actively involved with his children, both in school and sports.
